Isringhausen headed to DL, could he be done for good?
Bad news for the Rays bullpen. Jason Isringhausen, mopping up the ninth in the Ray’s 8-3 win over the Nationals, uncorked a wild pitch with 2 out and an 0-2 count. He immediately gestured to the dugout, and without much discussion, headed for the training room. Lance Cormier came on to get the final out.
Immediately following the game the Rays announced that he would be headed to the 15 day DL. Considering the fact that Isringhausen is coming off surgery to repair a torn tendon in his elbow last September, it can’t look good for the 36 year old reliever. Had it not been so quickly announced that he was heading to the DL, rather he was going to to be checked out by doctors tomorrow/MRI scheduled, then the prognosis wouldn’t be so dark. However, one can only assume that the a worst case scenario is more likely.
In the meantime, Tampa Bay has to look at replacing him in the bullpen. Bradford’s probably not ready to come up, perhaps recently signed Jorge Julio will be called up. If any of the rumors that Pedro Martinez was being looked at by the Rays, and possibly for the closer role, losing Isringhausen might give cause to the Rays to take a closer look. Regardless of who they bring up, it’s not been a good start to the season for the bullpen, and if Tampa Bay wants to make a serious run after the All-Star break, they need to do something sooner than later.
UpdateThe Times is reporting Winston Abreu will be called up from triple-A Durham.

Game 5 Tentatively Scheduled for Wednesday
Bud Selig and MLB are saying that weather will not permit game 5 to be finished this evening, and that “We are closely monitoring tomorrow’s forecast and will continue to monitor the weather on an hourly basis. We will advise fans as soon as we are able to make any final decisions with respect to tomorrow’s schedule”. (link)
I’m sure with the varying weather reports, the last thing MLB wanted was to start the game and again not be able to finish it again.
